Detailed solution to all exercise questions that appeared in NCERT book for Class 9 Math in Chapter 13 - Surface Areas and Volumes.
This chapter is a relatively easy one. If you know the formulae to compute curved surface area, lateral surface area, total surface area, and volumes of different solids, you will be able to solve most of the questions with ease.
Exercise 13.1 - 8 questions | Video Solutions for Q3, Q6 & Q7
Lateral surface area of cube, lateral surface area of cuboids and total surface area of cubes and total surface area of cuboids.
You will be using the following formulae
1. Surface area of cuboid or Total surface area of cuboid: 2(lb + bh + hl), where l is the length, b is the breadth and h is the height of the cuboid.
2. Lateral surface area of cuboid: 2(l + b)h
3. Surface area of cube or Total surface area of cube: 6a2, where 'a' is the side of the cube.
4. Lateral surface area of cube: 4a2
Exercise 13.2 - 11 questions | Video Solutions for Q3, Q4, Q9 & Q10
Curved surface area of cylinder and total surface area of cylinder.
You will be using the following formulae
1. Curved surface area of cylinder: 2πrh, where 'r' is the base radius of the cylinder and 'h' is the height of the right circular cylinder.
2. Total surface area of cylinder: 2πr(r + h).
Exercise 13.3 - 8 questions | Video Solutions for Q5 and Q8
Curved surface area of cone or lateral surface area of cone and total surface area of cone.
You will be using the following formulae to compute these surface area of right circular cones
1. Curved surface area of cone: πrl, where 'r' is the radius of the base of the right circular cone and 'l' is the slant height of the cone.
2. Total surface area of cone: πr(l + r)
Exercise 13.4 - 9 Questions | Video Solutions for Q8 and Q9
Curved surface area of sphere, curved surface area of hemisphere and total surface area of hemisphere.
You will be using these 3 formula to compute surface area of sphere and curved surface area of hemisphere and TSA of hemisphere.
1. Surface area of sphere: 4πr2, where 'r' is the radius of the sphere.
2. Curved surface area of hemisphere: 2πr2, where 'r' is the radius of the sphere.
3. Total surface area of hemisphere: 3πr2, where 'r' is the radius of the sphere.
Exercise 13.5 - 9 Questions | Video Solutions for Q8 and Q9
Volume of cubes and volume of cuboids.
The formulae to compute the volume of a cube and cuboid are given below:
1. Volume of Cube: The formula to compute the volume of a cube is a3, where 'a' is the edge of the cube.
2. Volume of Cuboid: The formula to compute the volume of cuboid is l × b × h; where l, b, and h are the length, breadth and height of the cuboid respectively.
