Question 9: Find the coordinates of the point P which divides the line segment joining the points A(-2, 5) and B(3, -5) in the ratio 2 : 3.

## NCERT Solution to Class 10 Maths

### Explanatory Answer | 2019 Sample Question Paper Q9

Coordinates of the point P(x, y) which divides the line segment joining the points A(x1, y1) and B(x2, y2) internally in the ratio m : n are

P(x, y) = ($$frac{m x_2 + n x_1}{m + n}$ , $\frac{m y_2 + n y_1}{m + n}$) In this question,$x1, y1) = (-2, 5); (x2, y2) = (3, -5); m : n = 2 : 3

($$frac{m x_2 + n x_1}{m + n}$ , $\frac{m y_2 + n y_1}{m + n}$) =$x, y)

($$frac{2$3$ + 3(-2)}{2 + 3}) , $$frac{2$-5$ + 3(5)}{2 + 3})) = (x, y)

($$frac{6 - 6}{5}$ , $\frac{-10 + 15}{5}$) =$x, y)
(0, 1) = (x, y)
